• Nursery Education Grant

We have had a few queries about the NEG which all three years olds at discovery will be entitled to. Please find some more detailed information below.

All 3 and 4-year-olds in England are entitled to 570 hours of free early education or childcare a year. This is often taken as 15 hours each week for 38 weeks of the year.

Children are eligible from the term after their third birthday.

Your child must be aged three by:
    • 31 March to start the summer term (13 April 2015)
    • 31 August to start the autumn term (1 September 2015)
    • 31 December to start the spring term (4 January 2016)

How does this affect your fees?

If your child occupies a full time space (50 hours a week), you will now only have to pay the rate for 35 hours a week as you child is entitled to 15 hours free. Please see the information below as to the level of fees.

  • All About Me

foodThe children are really enjoying this month’s theme of “All About Me” and have been participating in a range of activities to explore their likes, dislikes and differences. A particular favourite for Woodlands room was the tasting session where the children were blindfolded and had to taste different treats and categorise into ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ (kiwis are a general favourite)!

As we go into the last week of the “All About Me” theme we will be discussing our differences. Please continue to have conversations with your child at home to consolidate their learning.

It is also the last week of the Hair Salon and Nelly (Explorers teacher) has some good ideas for what will go up next so keep an eye out.

  • Is your child going to school in September?

    ATTENTION PARENTS

January 15th is the deadline for the first round of applications to primary schools across Ealing. Applying for a place is really easy and can be done online.
If you miss this deadline then there will still be places available for your child, however they may not be at the school of your choice. Feel free to have a look through Ealing’s primary prospectus to help you make a decision or follow the Ealing Family Information Service for further information. Links are below.

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR

I do hope that you and your families have enjoyed a relaxing time over the holidays. I am delighted to welcome you and your families back and look forward to getting to know you all better.

    A few admin points:

Our Spanish lessons will commence on  Wednesday 14th January 2015. The children will be taught by the lovely Ana from Ole kids. Ana has an up to date DBS check and has considerable experience teaching Spanish to children in the early years and has some really exciting things planned for the children. If you would like your child to participate in the sessions, please make a note in your child’s diary.  Sessions are £5 per week payable monthly in advance.

Please can each child bring in a water bottle with their name clearly affixed to it. It is important that the children drink plenty of water throughout the day and we are exploring different ways of encouraging them to drink more. Their water bottles will be placed in their cubbies at the end of each day for you to take home and wash before bringing it back again in the morning.

We will be providing the children with individual bedding at nap time. The bedding will be placed in their cubbies each day and will allow you the opportunity to take home and wash as required. A deposit of £15 is required for loss and damage. Please can you label the bedding with your child’s name.

A general reminder to label all of your child’s items of clothing and to remember to leave a pair of wells at the nursery. We aim to give the children some outdoor time in all weathers and a few puddles can make it even more fun!
